ACI Asia-Pacific and Middle East calls for tailored security technology implementation at ECAC Seminar

  • 2025-09-09

ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East highlighted the importance of the use of technology in enhancing airport security operations while emphasising that equipment selection must avoid a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach, at a seminar organised by the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC), and hosted by the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka in Negombo, Sri Lanka.

This two-day seminar  brought together over 50 security professionals from state regulators and airports, primarily from Asia-Pacific.

Mr. Gary Leung, Senior Manager of Security & Facilitation at ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East, participated in two of the panel discussions focused on security technology development.

The first panel touched on some of the common observations regarding technology deployment at airports in the region, such as the growing adoption of innovative screening technologies, the widening gap between large and small airports, and the imbalanced priority facing passenger-related technologies compared to the other back-end systems. The second panel explored the latest technology trends, highlighting the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in transforming security operations, and the potential of emerging technologies to create a more seamless and hassle-free passenger experience.

This workshop served as a valuable platform to discuss technology issues and explore collaborative solutions across the Asia-Pacific region. ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East, as the voice of airports, remains committed to collaborating with regional and international associations to help airport members stay at the forefront of aviation security advancements.
