  • 2025-07-18

Airports Council International  Asia-Pacific & Middle East (ACI APAC & MID) played a prominent role at the first-ever ICAO Regional Facilitation Regional Forum, held on July 7-8 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. The forum convened over 120 participants, including state regulators, airports, airlines, and industry associations, to address critical issues in air transport facilitation.

Celebrating the 75th anniversary of the first edition of ICAO Annex 9 on Facilitation, the Forum provided an opportunity to highlight the significance of efficient air transport facilitation and share best practices for streamlining the clearance of aircraft, passengers and goods through the formalities required at international borders.

ACI APAC & MID participated in a panel discussion focused on enhancing the passenger experience in light of rapid technological advancements and digitisation. Speaking on the panel, Mr. Gary Leung, Senior Manager of Security and Facilitation, emphasised the increasing adoption of automated technologies across various touchpoints at airports to create a more seamless and stress-free journey for travellers. He also underscored the critical importance of collaboration among all stakeholders in the ecosystem, including airports, airlines, and immigration authorities, to facilitate a seamless end-to-end travel experience.

Beyond the passenger experience, the two-day forum also featured a range of insightful panel discussions on key facilitation topics, including national facilitation legislation, travel document security, innovation in border processing, and the use of Advance Passenger Information (API) and Passenger Name Record (PNR), among others.

ACI APAC & MID remains committed to assisting airports in optimising passenger processing and advocating with relevant government agencies to advance passenger facilitation at both national and regional levels.
