Strengthening global aviation security: CAM’s landmark participation in ECAC workshop

On 2nd to 3rd September 2025, representative of Macau International Airport Company Limited (CAM) participated in the Security Equipment Workshop held in Negombo, Sri Lanka, organized by ECAC (European Civil Aviation Conference) and the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) of Sri Lanka. The goal of the workshop was to share challenges and best practices to enhance aviation security throughout the region.

 

 

The workshop brought together approximately 50 participants from 15 countries and organizations across Asia-Pacific and Europe. A diverse range of airports attended, from established world-class facilities to emerging airports exploring new security technologies. Discussions covered topics from basic equipment functions and expected outcomes to daily operations including maintenance, certifications and inspections.


Key themes included technical specifications and certification of security equipment, as well as advanced technologies such as Automatic Prohibited Items Detection Systems (APIDS) for cabin baggage. 

 

 

AVSEC Quality Control Manager of CAM, Mr. Nuno Sampaio Nunes was one of the event’s featured expert speaker, who delivered two presentations on “AVSEC Equipment Inspection & Maintenance” and “Testing Security Equipment”, and also participated in the Event Q&A panel. The significant of MIA, as one of the globally recognized airport in aviation security operations were highlighted. This recognition reinforces the importance of MIA as a model of excellence in aviation security, both regionally and worldwide, as acknowledged by the invitation from ECAC.
