ACI APAC & MID shares regional insights on advancing aviation security at Incheon’s World Aviation Conference

ACI APAC & MID was honored to be invited to the World Aviation Conference 2026, hosted by the Incheon International Airport Corporation (IIAC), from 8-9 September 2026 in Incheon, Republic of Korea. The two-day conference welcomed more than 300 participants from across the aviation industry, both local and international, to explore key trends shaping civil aviation today -- ranging from the use of AI in airport operations to innovation in air cargo and strategies for future talent development.

Mr. Gary Leung, Senior Manager – Security & Facilitation of ACI APAC & MID, took part in a panel entitled “Enhancing AVSEC Operation Efficiency.” The session focused on improving security checkpoint efficiency and the implementation of advanced technologies in the region. Providing an overview of the security checkpoint upgrade in the region, Mr. Leung emphasised that airport security processes must continue to evolve in line with rising passenger volumes and growing traveller expectations in the years ahead.

Over recent years, airports across the Asia-Pacific region, including Incheon Airport, have made substantial investments in upgrading screening technologies to deliver a smoother passenger experience while maintaining the highest security standards. Based on ACI data, the deployment of CT scanners and body scanners for passenger and cabin baggage screening is increasing rapidly and is expected to double by 2028. During the panel, Mr. Leung also shared practical insights and lessons learned from implementing smart security technologies, drawing on inputs collected from airports across the region.

The conference concluded with closing remarks by Mr. Bum-ho Kim, Acting President and CEO of IIAC, who expressed his appreciation to all international speakers for their participation. In addition to ACI, the event featured contributions from speakers representing airports, airlines, government agencies, and local academic institutions.
