
Spotlight on human factors at ACI APAC & MID Regional Security Committee Meeting

The 35th ACI APAC & MID Regional Aviation Security Committee (RASC) meeting, hosted by Changi Airport Group from 28-30 October in Singapore, saw a record participation of 69 security experts from airports and World Business Partners (WBPs) in the region.
The two-day meeting covered discussions over trending topics including security challenges in conflict zones, rising cargo security threats, increasing incidents of disruptive passengers and insider threats. A significant focus was also placed on human factors, especially around the evolving roles and responsibilities of airport security screeners in view of the advancement in screening technologies. In addition, the committee agreed on a workplan for 2026, outline the framework and objectives for the upcoming year.

Besides, the committee unanimously supported Mr. Nuno Sampaio Nunes from Macau Airport, the current Vice-chair, to succeed Ms. Emma Boulby from Adelaide Airport as the new Chair of the RASC from Jan 2026. Nuno will serve a two-year term from Jan 2026-Dec 2027. An election for a new Vice-chair will take place early next year.
The meeting concluded with an airport tour at Changi Airport (SIN). The next RASC meeting is scheduled for 11 – 12 May 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand, where members will reconvene to continue the exchange of best practices in advancing aviation security.
