Airports Council International (ACI) Asia-Pacific and Middle East (ACI APAC & MID) announced the Airport Connectivity Report at the launch of its Middle East office in Riyadh. Developed in partnership with PwC, the Airport Connectivity Report measures passengers’ ability to access the global air transport network, capturing both direct and indirect routes, and also factoring in the quality of service of each connection, such as destination choice, service frequency, onward connectivity and price, contributing to the passenger experience. The report covers a sample of 100 airports that accounts for almost 60% of the combined passenger traffic in Asia-Pacific and the Middle East in 2019.

Airports Council International (ACI) Asia-Pacific, representing 617 airports, welcomes the decisions by Governments of Japan, Hong Kong and Chinese Taipei to relax COVID-related restrictions on international travel.
China's tougher border measures and Japan's cautious approach towards relaxation of inbound travel restrictions could displace Asia-Pacific as the world's largest air passenger market for the year 2022. Asia-Pacific which has dominated the civil aviation market for several years prior to the pandemic, is estimated to finish second, behind Europe in terms of passenger share, and at a comparable level with North America.
Despite considering the Government of Japan’s decision to remove border measures imposed in the Country in response to the COVID-19 pandemic as a positive step, ACI Asia-Pacific recommends the Government for a complete removal of international air travel restrictions, indicating that the industry cannot fully recover amid curbs.
