Airports Council International Asia-Pacific & Middle East (ACI APAC & MID), an association representing 624 airports, delivered two important presentations at the ICAO Conference of Directors General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for Middle East region in Riyadh, highlighting the critical need for enhancing air connectivity and seamlessly integrating Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) into the current air transportation framework.
In an effort to recognise airport operators' efforts in promoting effective safety culture and safety management through innovative, cost-effective solutions, ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East has launched Safety Recognition Award 2025.
The sixth Aerodrome Safety & Planning Implementation Group (ASPIG/6) met in Muscat, Oman from 27 to 29 May 2024. The meeting addressed various agenda items focused on enhancing aerodrome safety and efficiency in the Middle East region.
With the participation of His Excellency Ali Salim Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Airport Authority (SAA), and representatives from strategic partners, a team from SAA, in coordination with Sharjah Aviation Services, conducted Foreign Object Debris (FOD) removal at the airport. This included a field tour on the runway and aircraft apron to ensure their safety and prevent any potential risks during takeoff or landing.
The National Security Guard (NSG) successfully conducted a real time and exhaustive anti-hijack drill at Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru (BLR Airport) as part of its strategic efforts to enhance security and emergency response protocol. Commencing at 8 PM and concluding in the midnight on Monday, June 24th, the exercise exemplified the NSG’s dedication to utilising state-of-the-art technologies such as real-time communication systems, advanced surveillance equipment, and sophisticated anti-terrorism measures.
ahrain Airport Company (BAC), the operator and managing body of Bahrain International Airport (BIA), successfully conducted an emergency response exercise at BIA, simulating an incident beyond the 1,000-meter runway threshold.
Mangaluru International Airport in its continued quest for safe operations, conducted Mangalam – Tabletop Exercise 2024 on May 28. This exercise was a precursor to the full-scale aerodrome emergency exercise (FSAEE) that will be held in November 2024. The airport periodically conducts the tabletop and FSAEE as mandated by the civil aviation sector regulator – DGCA and as per the guidance from the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA).
Over 50 security experts from airports and World Business Partners (WBPs) in the region recently convened in Muscat, Oman from 7-9 May 2024 for the 32nd ACI Asia-Pacific and Middle East RASC meeting.
As the May 1 Labour Day holiday is approaching, the Central Meteorological Observatory forecasts on 29th April 2024 that the weather in some regions will be unstable in the later holiday period, with widespread heavy rainfall and severe weather in the central and eastern regions, and occurrences of heavy rain in Jiangnan and South China regions.
Mangaluru International Airport observed Fire Service Week at the airport premises on April 16, 2024, with a simulated demonstration on firefighting. The theme of Fire Service Week this year is ‘Ensure Fire Safety: Contribute Towards Nation Building’. In India, the fire and emergency service personnel observe the week every year from April 14-20 to pay tribute to firemen who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty at Mumbai Dockyard on April 14, 1944.
