At its 18th Regional Assembly in Kobe, Japan, Airports Council International (ACI) Asia-Pacific, a trade association representing 622 airports from 47 countries/territories, has made a resolution to promote, restore and develop air connectivity in Asia-Pacific and the Middle East to ensure social and economic development as well as support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
The global aviation industry is on track for a strong recovery this year, Bahrain Airport Company (BAC), Airports Council International (ACI) World, and ACI Asia-Pacific announced during a joint press conference ahead of the ACI World Governing Board, World Audit Committee, and World Executive Committee meetings. BAC is, for the first time, hosting the strategic meetings, which are being held in Bahrain from March 3 to 4 2023 and provide a platform for senior decision-makers to explore ways of enhancing cooperation between airports, international aviation organizations, and their strategic partners.
Speaking at the Routes Asia 2023 Powerhouse Panel: State of the Industry, ACI Asia-Pacific Director General Stefano Baronci presented the recovery trends of traffic and cargo in the Asia-Pacific and Middle East region.
ACI Asia-Pacific participated at the 9th Annual Technical and Operational Meeting (ATOM) of the Cooperative Aviation Security Programme – Asia Pacific (CASP-AP) in Singapore from 9-10 February 2023, hosted by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS).
ACI Asia-Pacific has added two new handbooks to its library of safety guidelines. The first is aimed at helping its members to set up procedures to determine when to scale down or shut down aerodrome operations during a thunderstorm and to resume operations afterwards. The second provides a methodology to estimate manning requirements for aerodrome operations. Both are available for free to ACI Asia-Pacific members.

The 3rd meeting of the ICAO Middle East Regional Aviation Security and Facilitation Group (MID-RASFG/3) was held from 16-18 January 2023 in Muscat, Oman and was hosted by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) of Oman.
Mr. Nagy Abu Zeid, Vice President Corporate Planning, Oman Airports, has been re-elected as the Chair of the ACI Asia-Pacific Economics Committee for the second successive term, while Mr. François Southarewsky, Chief Commercial Officer Aero Kansai Airports, has been unanimously elected a vice chair during the 18th Committee meeting in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia between 11 & 12 December, 2022.
ACI Asia-Pacific participated in the European Aviation Climate Change Adaptation Working Group meeting on 17 January, 2023. The event saw participation of experts in the field of environment, climate change and technical experts from airport operations.
