‘Smooth Skies’ Emergency Field Exercise to be held at Newcastle Airport Tomorrow

  • 2024-08-20

Newcastle Airport, Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) and civilian emergency agencies will join together Wednesday, 21 August to test emergency response procedures.

Held onsite at Newcastle Airport, the full-scale collaborative training exercise involving more than 100 participants, will test and evaluate emergency response procedures and support practices associated with a major aircraft incident.

The exercise is an important component of Newcastle Airport’s emergency management training and visitors to the airport, residents and businesses are assured the increased presence of emergency services in and around the airport on the day are part of a simulated exercise only.

The ‘Smooth Skies’ emergency field training will involve the following agencies:

  • Newcastle Airport
  • Port Stephens Council.
  • RAAF
  • NSW Police
  • NSW State Emergency Service (SES)
  • NSW Ambulance
  • Fire and Rescue NSW
  • NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS)
  • Australian Red Cross
  • Hunter New England Health

Newcastle Airport and all participating agencies thank the local community for its ongoing support.
