On 3rd December 2025, Macau International Airport Company Limited (CAM) was rotated to host the Chairman's meeting of Five Airports of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (A5) in Macau. The theme of the meeting is "Collaborative Development and Innovation-Driven Practices: Building a World-Class Airport Cluster". The event brought together the executives from A5 members, namely, Guangdong Airport Authority, Airport Authority Hong Kong, Shenzhen Airport (Group) Company Limited, Zhuhai Airport Group Corporation, and Macau International Airport. The meeting aims to discuss strategies for collaborative development among the airports in the GBA, further advancing the national strategic plan.

Mr. Chan Weng Hong, Chairman of the Executive Committee of CAM, highlighted that the global aviation industry is gradually recovering. He emphasized that the five major airports should follow the "Implementation Opinions on Supporting the Coordinated Development of Civil Aviation in in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area" issued by the Civil Aviation Administration of China to strengthen resource sharing and technical cooperation. He noted that Macau International Airport (MIA) is enhancing its functional positioning and collaborative efficiency within the world-class airport cluster of the Greater Bay Area through major infrastructure projects such as MIA Expansion and Reclamation Project, the Hengqin Upstream Cargo Terminal Project, and the air-sea intermodal transport hub at the Taipa Ferry Terminal. These projects not only significantly improve the comprehensive service capabilities of MIA, but also lay a solid foundation for building a globally leading high-quality aviation transport system in the GBA.

Mr. Pun Wa Kin, President of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Macao Special Administrative Region stated in his speech that the SAR Government has consistently supported coordinated cooperation among the five major airports in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. From the Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to the accelerated construction of Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, this support has strengthened the hub functions of the airport, established mutual contingency landing and experience-sharing mechanisms, and enhanced regional aviation competitiveness. President Pun noted that the Policy Address for the Fiscal Year explicitly positions air cargo as a key focus for economic diversification. This is complemented by airport reclamation and expansion projects, as well as upgrades to smart security inspection. Plans include opening applications for full-cargo airlines to establish operations in Macao in February next year, comprehensively boosting logistics competitiveness of Macau. President Pan expressed expectations that the five major airports will continue to deepen intelligent cooperation, jointly building a world-class airport cluster.

This effort has established unique position of Macau within the regional aviation system. The meeting facilitated deeper integration among the five airports in areas such as route networks, logistics connectivity (soft infrastructure), and smart infrastructure development (hard infrastructure). This not only aligns with the strategic directives of the "Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area" and supporting the national goal of building a world-class airport cluster.
