Kannur Airport Observes Aviation Safety Awareness Week 2023

With the resounding tagline "Safety First, Every Time, Everywhere," Kannur International Airport Limited (KIAL) recently concluded its Aviation Safety Awareness Week, spanning from November 27th to December 1st, 2023. The week witnessed robust participation from various stakeholders, including local government bodies, making it a notable success in promoting aviation safety.

 

The week kicked off with a comprehensive briefing session on roles and responsibilities for safe aircraft operations, delivered by airport partners including PBB operator M/s. Millenium, navigation partner Airports Authority of India, and fueling partner Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, to set the tone for a week focused on safety excellence.

Day two unfolded with a FOD (Foreign Object Debris) drive and an airside walkthrough led by Indigo Airlines. The day concluded with an engaging aviation quiz competition, testing the knowledge and awareness of the participants.

 

The third day showcased the inauguration of Kannur Airport's new Breath Analyzer testing facility. An essay writing competition and a workshop on ramp and airside safety regulations, conducted by the safety department, were followed by a safety walk on the airside to reinforce hazard identification and reporting, as well as the promotion of safe practices.

 

On the fourth day, a workshop on aerodrome safeguarding and NOC procedures for height clearance, was conducted by the Joint General Manager, Ms. Jabira M Yaseen, from Airports Authority of India-SR, Chennai. This informative session catered to stakeholders and officials from all Local Self-Government Departments (LSGDs) around the airport. The day also brought safety awareness to the public with a briefing on basic firefighting techniques by Kannur Airport ARFF team, followed by a spirited Fun Run.

 

The final day started with a workshop on aerodrome emergency response procedures led by KIAL Safety Team and basic life support training provided to all stakeholders by the airport medical partner M/s. Parco Hospitals. In addition to these initiatives, safety poster making and safety tagline competitions engaged participants creatively, reinforcing the importance of safety messaging in the aviation sector.

 

The culmination of the week unfolded with a closing ceremony and prize distribution, acknowledging, and applauding the collective efforts towards enhancing aviation safety awareness. The tagline "Safety First, Every Time, Everywhere" echoed throughout the event, symbolizing Kannur Airport's unwavering commitment to aviation safety.

 

Highlighting exceptional safety practices, Indigo Airlines was honored as the Best Airside Safety Performer of the Year, recognizing their outstanding commitment to ensuring the highest standards of safety in aviation operations.

Kannur Airport, through this initiative, reiterates its dedication to fostering a culture of safety and collaboration within the aviation community, ensuring the well-being of all passengers and stakeholders.
