HKIA introduces heat prevention measures to enhance staff occupational safety

Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) places great importance on the safety and health of the staff at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA). To safeguard occupational health during hot weather, and further enhance workplace safety, AAHK has implemented a range of heat prevention and cooling measures, while organising its annual “Prevention of Heat Stroke at Work” safety campaign to strengthen employees’ awareness of safe working practices in high-temperature environments. In response to recent heatwaves, AAHK has reminded related departments and business partners to closely monitor the Labour Department’s “Heat Stress at Work Warning”, conduct ongoing assessments of heat-related risks across different work procedures, and continuously review and refine various heat prevention measures.

Heat prevention measures at HKIA include deploying of three mobile water trucks that operate 24 hours a day at more than 10 apron locations to provide chilled drinking water; Distributing sun protection products and cooling supplies; Providing five air-conditioned staff rest facilities within the restricted area; Installing 49 sheltered staff rest areas on the apron, with seating upgraded to materials that reduce heat absorption; Distributing ice cream to airport staff; and organising thematic activities on heat-stroke prevention and workplace heat safety.

AAHK hosts nine free icecream giveaway campaigns this year. During the Campaign, more than 500 cups of icecream were distributed as a refreshing break amid the hot weather.
