Indonesia's aviation sector enters one of the most consequential periods. Following the landmark 2024 merger of Angkasa Pura I and Angkasa Pura II into Injourney Airports, which now manages 35 airports across the archipelago, cementing its place as one of the world's largest airport operators. According to ACI long-term forecast, Indonesia is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 5.2% until 2054, ranking second among the ten fastest-growing markets in the world.
With Indonesia’s aviation sector continues to experience robust growth, maintaining and elevating airport security standards is equally essential to keep pace with the surge in passengers, and confidence in the system.
It was in this context that Injourney Airports convened the Airport Security Commanders Forum 2026 in Bandung, Indonesia on 20-21 April 2026, and for the first time, opened its doors to international stakeholders. More than 100 security leaders from Indonesia's airports gathered alongside representatives from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, airline executives, and other stakeholders, making the event a forum for exchange of regional expertise and best practices.
ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East (ACI APAC & MID) was invited to be part of that conversation. Senior Manager of Security & Facilitation, Mr. Gary Leung, shared regional priorities for airport security, including compliance with international regulations, addressing emerging threats, adoption of advanced screening technologies, screener recruitment and retention and others.
Over the years, ACI has established close working relationships with airports in Indonesia, particularly through the ACI's Airport Excellence Programme (APEX) in Security. Looking ahead, ACI APAC & MID will continue to strengthen this partnership with Injourney Airports as Indonesia moves into a period of robust growth in the coming decades.
