ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East shares perspectives on the development of Advanced Air Mobility in China
- 2025-07-25
Unlike many countries where Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) remains in testing phases, China has moved up by a few notches as many applications are set to begin commercial operations.
Leveraging its low altitude airspace below 3,000 meters, China is developing an ecosystem centered around civil-manned and unmanned aerial vehicles. Known as the low-altitude economy, the ecosystem includes manufacturing, entertainment, logistics, leisure, sporting, as well as emergency and medical services.
In order to support the development of China's Low-Altitude Economy and build a platform for knowledge exchange of the AAM industry, China Civil Airports Association (CCAA), together with National Exhibition and Convention Centre, jointly hosted the International Advanced Air Mobility Expo in Shanghai between 23 and 26 July. The four-day event had over 200 exhibitors and drew more than 50,000 visitors.
Representing ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East, Mr. Philip Kwok, Senior Manager, Economics shared ACI’s position on the development of AAM and its implications on airports in the region. He highlighted the enormous economic potential of the AAM industry, while also cautioned the associated risks that must be carefully managed.
Mr. Kwok concluded that, in order for the AAM industry to thrive, stakeholders must work together in harmony to provide safe, secure, efficient, and sustainable mobility solutions.
Although there are still many hurdles before realising the full potential of a well established AAM industry, China is setting an example for others to follow.
