Airports Council International Asia-Pacific & Middle East (ACI APAC & MID), the trade association representing over 600 airports across Asia-Pacific and the Middle East, today released its flagship Air Connectivity Index, recording an average growth of 11% in 2025 across the two regions.
Airports Council International Asia-Pacific & Middle East (ACI APAC & MID) has called for stronger measures to address airport and airspace capacity constraints, modernise airport slot policy, and accelerate climate action across the region to support a safer, more efficient, resilient and sustainable air transport system. The recommendations were put forward at the ongoing 61st ICAO Conference of Directors General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for the Asia and Pacific Regions in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 7-11 September 2026.
Airports Council International Asia-Pacific & Middle East (ACI APAC & MID) underscored critical challenges and security threats facing airports in the region by delivering two presentations at the 14th ICAO Asia & Pacific Regional Aviation Security Coordination Forum (RASCF-APAC/14), held in Negombo, Sri Lanka on 25–26 June.

The Philippines is strengthened its position as one of the top ten fastest-growing aviation markets in the world, growing at an average of 4.4% every year for the next three decades until 2054. This growth is supported by strong economic momentum and an expanding middle class.
Organised under the Regional Environment Committee, the webinar attracted 114 participants, including committee members, sustainability professionals, and airport operations experts from across Asia-Pacific and the Middle East, reflecting strong regional interest in advancing environmental initiatives.
The study will assess long-term airport infrastructure investment requirements of approximately 300 airports, including smaller airports and cargo-focused airports, covering both planned investments and future needs driven by passenger and cargo growth, as well evolving passenger expectations.
Speaking on behalf of ACI APAC & MID, Mr. Gary Leung, Senior Manager for Security and Facilitation, highlighted the need to adopt a “security-by-design” approach as airports across the region embark on major infrastructure expansions.
