  • 2023-04-04

It is about to usher the first long weekend holidays in April after the opening of the epidemic. Local citizens and visitors are about to have plans for travel during the Ching Ming Festival and Easter holidays. In order to cope with the increasing volume of passenger traffic this week, MIA continues to monitor the software and hardware equipment upgrades and prepare for personnel arrangements for better preparation.

According to the statistics of the Marketing Department, the departure flight movement of MIA in April is about 580 per week, representing an increase of 56% compared to that of March per week. Amongst, the weekly flight movement in April of the Mainland, China Taiwan, and Southeast Asia regions will be 324, 64 and 192 respectively. Among these, the flight movement of Southeast Asian flights rose significantly by more than doubled.

Passenger traffic of civil aviation tourism is gradually increasing now. Macau International Airport has always been committing to optimizing passenger service measures and ensuring safety and smooth operations. An airport safety and operation coordination meeting was held by Airport Operations Department (AOD) on 20th March 2023, in which it mentioned that AOD will make appropriate arrangements on boarding gates in South Extension of the Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) and manpower based on the updated daily forecast flight numbers and passenger data provided by airlines, while all relevant operation units of MIA have to pay attention to the queuing situation in the terminal building and increase manpower to guide and assist with the passengers in a timely manner. With the successive upgrades of the Baggage Handling System (BHS), Hold Baggage Screen (HBS) process while adopting the RFID function for tracking the checked baggage, so as to meet the needs of passengers and provide a better travel convenience experience. After the completion of the reconstruction project of the oversized baggage handling area on south side of PTB, total two oversized baggage handling areas are located at both sides of the PTB will effectively divert passengers in need of the service and reduce the check-in time.  At the same time, the additional maintenance check of the airport facility system will be strengthened to enhance operational capability. Real-time monitor of public transport services connecting the airport and the city centre, especially the taxi station situation will be carried out for further assistance for the inbound passengers with their transportation needs and facilitation of their journey.

MIA will continue to uphold the core value of “Safety, Efficiency and Effectiveness”, optimize the efficiency of the operation services and continue to enhance passenger experience with high-level services. While looking forward to the continuous increase in passenger traffic, and focusing on the needs of passengers.
