Topping Out Macau International Airport's South Extension Project of Passenger Terminal Building

The construction works on main structure of the South Extension Building at Macau International Airport (MIA) has been recently completed and the entire project is estimated to be completed in Q4 of 2021. To record this key milestone of the project, the topping out ceremony was held on 8th February 2021, the representatives from Macau International Airport Company Limited (CAM), the design & build contractor Nam Fong Construction & Real Estate Co., Limited (Nam Fong), the Supervision PAL Asiaconsult Limited (PAL) and the Quality Assurance Consultant Civil Engineering Laboratory of Macau (LECM) attended the ceremony. 

 

South Extension project of PTB had been officially launched with the work commencement ceremony which took place on 11 March 2020. Currently, the work completion progress has been over 40%. Except the external structure, constructions of facade system and interior partition, and installation of pipework, ductwork as well as MEP equipment have been ongoing accordingly.

 

The 3-storey South Extension Building with a total area of over 18,000 square metres will comprise of immigration hall, departure lounge, commercial area, offices, prayer room, entertainment room and conference rooms. Three additional boarding bridges will also be provided, thus a total of eight boarding bridges will be in operation upon completion of the project to satisfy the future passenger volume. The design of South Extension Building not only fulfills the Macau construction specifications but also follows the airport design guidelines of International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) to evaluate the efficiency of the facilities and services. The South Extension Building will be perfectly integrated with the existing Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) to provide consistency, seamless architectural appearance of both interior and exterior of the building. As the project will be completed in Q4 of 2021, the annual passenger handling capacity of MIA will be expected to increase significantly from 7.8 million to 10 million. 

 

Apart from the construction progress, CAM has also requested the project contractor and supervision entity to concentrate on construction quality, security and safety management which are put to the top priority. In terms of safety management, the contractor is required to provide frequent safety trainings to enhance the safety awareness of all site personnel so as to ensure safety of the entire construction site. 

 

On the other hand, the contractor has also been requested to have proper holiday arrangement for all necessary site personnel in order to cope with epidemic prevention measures of Macau SAR Government. All site personnel are recommended to stay in Macau or Guangdong Province and avoid nonessential travels.
