Perth Airport partners with Bechtel to deliver One Airport vision
- 2026-01-22
Perth Airport has progressed significantly with construction and planning of its multi-billion-dollar investment in critical aviation infrastructure to support Western Australia’s growth.
In early 2025, Perth Airport partnered with Bechtel as its Capital Portfolio Partner to establish governance, tools, and processes to integrate the projects and set the program up for success.
Bechtel has now been appointed as the Capital Portfolio Partner for the Implementation Phase, forming an integrated team with Perth Airport to manage design and delivery of construction projects across a live operating airport environment.
Perth Airport CEO Jason Waters said this appointment is another critical step in delivering our plans to transform Perth Airport within the next seven years.
“Bechtel will work side-by-side with our team, providing specialist advice and supporting the delivery of our complex and ambitious infrastructure program.
“This is an exciting time for Perth Airport as momentum picks up on a range of critical projects including a new runway, new terminal facilities, two multi-storey car parks, significant upgrades to the road networks and the establishment of our first ever hotel.
“This will result in the long-held vision for One Airport which will deliver greater efficiency for airlines and a better travel experience for passengers.
“At the same time, we have launched a number of important projects in current facilities to ensure the customer experience is enhanced. This includes an expansion of Terminal 2, a major overhaul of the retail and food & beverage offering and introducing 95 additional self-service check-in kiosks within T1.
“We need to deliver multiple major construction projects in an operational environment at a time when our passenger numbers are continuing to grow rapidly.
“We have been transparent with the public about these challenges and ask for patience when dealing with the unavoidable disruptions such projects can cause.
“We forecast that by 2046, we will be facilitating 30 million passengers, generating 75,400 jobs, and contributing $17billion to the State’s economy annually.
“So, it is critical that we deliver these projects because when Perth Airport grows, the Western Australian economy grows,” said Mr Waters.
Richard Freer, Bechtel’s Managing Director of Public Infrastructure in Australia, said
“I am honoured and proud that Bechtel has been appointed as Capital Portfolio Partner for the Implementation Phase of Perth Airport’s expansion.
“This major program is a vital investment in Western Australia’s future. We will work as one team with Perth Airport and its contractors to deliver a modern, efficient gateway that strengthens the economy, creates local jobs and opportunities, and enhances the passenger experience - an international hub the State can be proud of.”
