Perth Airport partners with AGL on solar farm
- 2026-07-03
Perth Airport has partnered with AGL to design and construct a 4.545 MW solar farm on the Perth Airport Estate.
The new development will mark a significant step forward in Perth Airport’s commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2032.
Perth Airport’s CEO Jason Waters said the development of this project forms a major part of our energy strategy, which outlines the potential pathway to develop commercial, economic energy systems that support sustainable growth.
“By 2046 we will be facilitating 30 million passengers, generating 75,400 jobs, and contributing $17 billion to the State’s economy annually, so as a growing airport, incorporating sustainable initiatives will be a critical component of our operations.
“Our first solar farm will produce an estimated annual energy yield of over 10 GWh (gigawatt hours) and will complement other energy systems such as the electrification of vehicle and equipment fleets, expansion of rooftop solar systems and future additional solar farms on the estate.
“The new solar farm will integrate into our existing 22 kV network and supports our goal to reach 50 per cent renewable energy consumption across the estate, reducing our Scope 2 emissions.
AGL General Manager of Sustainable Business Energy Solutions Brendan Weinert said this project for Perth Airport demonstrates how AGL is working with large, and complex commercial businesses to transition to a more sustainable future and unlock greater value from energy investments.
“We’re really pleased with this partnership that will help the airport move closer to its Net Zero commitment.”
The solar farm will be located to the east of the General Aviation Precinct with construction schedule to be completed next year.
“By combining onsite generation with a maturing approach to energy procurement, Perth Airport is setting a new benchmark for sustainable operations.”
“This milestone is a testament to the collaborative efforts of the Perth Airport team and our partners.”
