Vietnam Airlines’ Boeing 787 Dreamliner lands at Long Thanh International Airport on technical flight

Long Thanh International Airport (LTIA) has officially welcomed its first flight utilizing Vietnam's largest aircraft. This is the first civil aviation flight to land at LTIA, holding significant importance for the final evaluation of operational conditions in preparation for the official flight scheduled to land on December 19.

Flight VN5001, operated by Vietnam Airlines using a Boeing 787 Dreamliner with a payload equivalent to a commercial flight, took off from Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN) at 3:34 PM and successfully landed at Long Thanh International Airport at 4:00 PM on December 15. Immediately afterward, Flight VN5002 successfully took off from LTIA at 6:00 PM on the same day. This event plays a vital role in comprehensively assessing the technical infrastructure, service procedures, and coordination capabilities among functional units at Vietnam's largest airport.

Prior to this remarkable flight, Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), in collaboration with Vietnam Airlines (VNA) and the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM), inspected all relevant aspects, including the runway, apron, navigation systems, passenger terminal, ground service, technical operations, operational management, air traffic control, and more. This is considered the final verification step of Long Thanh International Airport's readiness before welcoming the first passenger flight from Noi Bai International Airport, which is scheduled for December 19, 2025.

The successful landing of the flight, operated by Vietnam's largest aircraft, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, provided a real-world assessment of the airport's operational capabilities, marking a crucial turning point in the progress of this key national super-project. This serves as a solid foundation towards the complete scale of three phases, designed for a capacity of 100 million passengers and 5 million tons of cargo per year. The success of this flight, coupled with the effort to quickly bring the project into commercial operation, will be a key driving force, contributing to the goal of elevating Vietnam's aviation position in the region and globally.

Long Thanh International Airport is a key national project, oriented to become a modern aviation gateway and one of Vietnam's new transit hubs in the future, meeting the strong growth demand of the aviation industry and international trade.
