KIX T1 Renovation Phase 4: New International Commercial Area opens on 2 June 2026

  • 2026-04-07

Kansai Airports is pleased to announce that the new stores in the international departure area, developed as part of Phase 4 of the Terminal 1 renovation project, are scheduled to open on Tuesday, 2 June 2026.

The T1 renovation has been carried out in phases since 2021 under the core concepts of “enhancing international flight capacity,” “upgrading the airside area,” and “improving the passenger experience.” With major functional upgrades completed in March 2025, Kansai International Airport (KIX) celebrated the grand opening of the renovated Terminal 1, marking a significant evolution toward accommodating future traffic growth.

In the final phase, Phase 4, the newly expanded north–south section of the international departure area—first opened in December 2023—will welcome a total of 24 new stores.

These include luxury brands, shops making their first appearance at a Japanese airport, retail stores offering character goods and popular local specialties, and well-known fast-food chains, creating a rich and diverse commercial environment.

A variety of stores showcasing the charm of Japan and the Kansai region will also be featured. In a food court with four Japanese restaurants, passengers can enjoy authentic Japanese cuisine right up until their departure.

With the opening of this area, the five-year Terminal 1 renovation will be fully completed. The floor area of the central international zone will be 1.6 times larger than before the renovation.

Kansai Airports Group will continue to collaborate with partners to create new travel experiences as the gateway to the Kansai region, welcoming guests from Japan and around the world.
