Groundbreaking for the "Construction of Passenger Terminal T2 - Cat Bi International Airport" Project
- 2025-08-21
On August 19, 2025, ACV in coordination with the city of Hai Phong held the groundbreaking ceremony for the "Construction of Passenger Terminal T2 - Cat Bi International Airport" project.
Passenger Terminal T1 at Cat Bi International Airport has been serving its role well; however, the current passenger traffic through Terminal T1 has far exceeded its original design capacity (2 million passengers/year). Therefore, the construction of Passenger Terminal T2 is an urgent requirement and a strategic step to enhance operational capacity, meeting the needs of socio-economic development, tourism, and international integration in the new era.
The "Construction of Passenger Terminal T2 - Cat Bi International Airport" project has a total investment of 2,689.819 billion VND from ACV's capital. It will be built on an area of 23,200m², with a capacity of 5 million passengers/year (corresponding to 1,500 passengers/peak hour). There is also a provision to expand the capacity to 10 million passengers/year when needed. This, along with the planned expansion of Terminal T1 (to 3 million passengers/year), will meet the goal of achieving a total airport capacity of 13 million passengers/year by 2030.
The project is scheduled for completion within 18 months from the date of completed site clearance and full land handover for construction
Passenger Terminal T2 at Cat Bi International Airport is designed with two above-ground floors, with separate levels for departures and arrivals. Terminal T2 will be connected to the aircraft apron by 04 passenger boarding bridges (three of which are Code C bridges and one is a dual-arm bridge that can serve either one Code E aircraft or two Code C aircraft simultaneously).
Terminal T2 will feature 02 check-in islands with 28 check-in counters (including 05 self-service bag drop counters), 14 check-in kiosks, 02 baggage loading carousels, and 03 baggage claim carousels.
The auxiliary systems, which meet international standards, include an M&E technical area, a power station, a chiller plant, a wastewater treatment plant, a car park, landscaping, an internal port traffic system, lighting, and water supply and drainage systems.
As the project owner, ACV, along with its consulting units, contractor consortium, and the entire team of employee, engineers, and workers, is committed to mobilizing maximum resources, applying advanced management solutions, and strictly adhering to technical, safety, and quality standards to bring the project into operation on schedule, with high quality and maximum efficiency. Upon completion and commissioning, Passenger Terminal T2 at Cat Bi International Airport will become a new symbol of Hai Phong city, contributing to its development as a leading aviation, logistics, and tourism hub, and realizing the port city's aspirations for growth in the new era.
