Chairman of the CAM Executive Committee Visited the Civil Aviation Entities in East China

Chairman of the Executive Committee of Macau International Airport Company Limited (CAM), Dr. Deng Jun and the delegation visited Director of CAAC East China Air Traffic Management Bureau (ATMB), Mr. Yu Bo, Chairman of Shanghai Airport (Group) Co., Ltd, Mr. Qin Yun, and other civil aviation entities in Shanghai on 14th to 16th February 2023 to exchange information on the industry and possible recovery plans.

Chairman Qin Yun introduced the restoration of two airports in Shanghai and the status of cargo transport and international routes. The plan of building a third airport is on schedule, while Airport Link Line is expected to be connecting this year, and put into operation by 2024. The Shanghai Hongqiao Airport will resume operations of Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan regional routes, and international routes to Japan and Korea by the end of March.

 

Chairman Deng Jun said that the official approval from the State Council for the expansion and reclamation of the Macau International Airport, was a proof from the Central Government and the Macau SAR Government for their long-term support of the sustainable development of the airport. MIA has entered its 28th year of operation, and has carried out the infrastructure renovation and development step by step in a “run with small step” strategy. The maintenance of facilities has achieved positive results by laying a solid foundation for the long-term development of the airport.

 

Other delegates attended the meeting from Shanghai Airport (Group) Co., Ltd included: Chief of the Board Office Mr. Yang Jixing and Head of External Affairs Mr. Wu Keqiang.

In addition, when visiting the CAAC East China Air Traffic Management Bureau (ATMB), Director Yu Bo mentioned that the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) will carry out the transfer of flight slot management rights and is conducting a comprehensive reform to improve flight efficiency. He also expressed his willingness to provide technical support and guidance for the technical upgrade of Macau International Airport (MIA).

Chairman Deng Jun said that the passenger traffic of MIA recovered ideally during the Lunar New Year, which increased by 80% year on year.  The route to Shanghai has returned to 70% of that in the pre-epidemic, with 23 round trips per day utmost.  Among them, Juneyao Air, China Eastern Airlines, etc. have switched to wide body passenger aircraft to carry passengers as to meet market demand.  The passenger traffic in East China has reached 70% of 2019, there will be room for increased flight frequency in the market.

 

The delegation also paid visit to the airline companies that operate to Macau. Through discussions and exchanges, they can feel the desire of the civil aviation industry in the Mainland to actively resume business. Moreover, they have adopted a number of measures to solve the current predicament, especially the emphasis on market demand in the Mainland, the use of high technology, strong willingness to cooperate with other companies, which are worth learning and researching. During this trip, the delegation also gathered those expertise from all walks of life who have supported and participated in the development of Macau’s civil aviation industry for a long time, and expressed the gratitude of Macau International Airport.

Chairman Deng Jun presented the Staff Loyalty Awards for serving the company for 10 years to the Chief Representative of the Shanghai Representative Office (SRO) Mr. Ye Hong during this trip and highly commended the works of SRO during the three-year epidemic which is recognized by the company. Although the epidemic temporarily blocked the communication between people, the cloud finally saw the moon. Transportation drove the flow of people and logistics, speed up circulation and show the country';s economic vitality, and at the same time promote the development of Macao’s civil aviation industry and tourism industry.
