CAM’s Delegation Visited Shanghai Airport Authority to discuss Shanghai – Macau Express Route Service

Chairman of the Executive Committee of Macau International Airport Company Limited (CAM) Mr. Simon Chan and his delegation paid a business visit to Chairman of Shanghai Airport Authority (SAA), Mr. Qin Yun on 23rd May 2023, jointly explore opportunities by exchanging on cooperation of Shanghai – Macau Express Route Service to further improve both airports’ position as international aviation hub.

 

During the meeting, Chairman Chan stated that with the rapid recovery of the travel market in the Mainland of China, passenger volume and aircraft movement of Macau International Airport (MIA) recorded exponential growth. Passenger traffics of Shanghai routes recorded significant growth, ranked the highest tourist source of MIA. To seize the opportunity, CAM aims to further deepen collaboration with SAA by increasing flight frequency on popular routes, and embarking upon the implementation of “Shanghai – Macau Express Route” pilot scheme. The scheme aims to offer diversified travel options to travelers, at the same time, passengers are allowed to utilize the route networks of both airports reaching to destinations worldwide.

 

Chairman Qin warmly welcomed the delegations, and expressed that traffic volume of both Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport and Shanghai Pudong International Airport recorded significant growth, which traffic throughput of domestic flights exceeded pre-pandemic level. A number of airlines is deploying to launch new routes and increase flight frequencies to international destinations. In regards to the frequency increase of Shanghai – Macau routes, SAA will actively coordinate on related issue accordingly in order to cater the rising travel demand.

 

 

At the meeting, two parties reached a consensus on “Shanghai – Macau Express Route” pilot scheme, representing a new era of cooperation to complement the advantages of both airports to satisfy the different needs of customers. At the meantime, MIA will conduct subsequent studies on the pilot scheme, aiming to optimize travel experiences by introducing more boutique express routes to passengers.

 

Prior to the official meeting, Chairman Qin led the delegation visiting “Hongqiaoyuan – Shanghai Airport Centennial History Exhibition Hall” which an in-depth introduction on the history and expansion blueprint of Shanghai’s aviation business was given.

 

Other representatives joined the meeting are: Secretary of the Board of Directors Office of SAA Mr. Yang Jixing, Executive Vice President of Hongqiao Airport Mr. Li Zhengjia; delegates from CAM: Executive Director Mr. Chu Tan Neng and Executive Director Mr. Lei Si Tai, Director of Airport Operations Department Mr. Gary Geng, Senior Assistant to Chief Representative of Shanghai Representative Office Mr. Yu Feng, and Manager of Marketing Department Ms. Fiona Fong.
