Airport Authority welcomes Gazettal to expand the exemption scope for air passenger departure tax

  • 2025-06-11

Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) welcomes the Government’s gazettal to amend the legislation and expand the scope of passengers eligible to be exempted from the Air Passenger Departure Tax, covering all passengers arriving in Hong Kong by aircraft or other means, and departing from Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) by aircraft within 48 hours.

Positioned at the heart of the Greater Bay Area (GBA), HKIA has been offering comprehensive intermodal passenger services to connect with the region, including high-speed ferry to seven ports and some 30 city terminals providing check-in and coach services in the GBA, as well as door-to-door limousine services.

AAHK believes that the expanded exemptions will help HKIA maintain its role as an intermodal transportation hub, further enhance the airport’s competitiveness, and consolidate its position as Asia’s leading aviation hub. In addition, expanding the scope of these exemptions will also support Hong Kong’s tourism, catering and hospitality industries by encouraging more transfer passengers to visit the city’s attractions.

To implement the expansion of the exemption scope, AAHK will proactively follow up on the details with the Government regarding the setting up of a one-stop refund service for passengers, including a new e-application platform.
