Adelaide Airport to transform passenger experience with Amadeus’ seamless travel technology

  • 2026-08-20
  • Major self-service check-in and bag drop upgrade to empower travelers and reduce queues
  • Move to the cloud supports passenger service innovation while easing connectivity with airlines

The experience for passengers at Adelaide Airport, Australia’s fifth busiest airport, is poised to significantly improve as the airport rolls out a wide range of advanced self-service technology from Amadeus.

Under the terms of the agreement, the airport will install more than 50 Amadeus Seamless Bag Drop S7 Air and S7 Air Hybrid units. These units increase passenger servicing flexibility by operating in full self service or agent-staffed modes and benefit from a unique side-loading design that makes it easier to load bags and maneuver large items like wheelchairs, pushchairs and trollies.

The new bag drops will be complemented by circa 80 Amadeus Seamless Kiosks, ensuring passengers benefit from a fast, simple and smooth self-serve check-in experience.

As part of the upgrade the airport will also move its passenger processing technology to the cloud. Adoption of Amadeus’ ACUS (Airport Cloud Use Service) allows airlines to operate from any check-in and boarding counter, and easily access any systems they need conveniently from the cloud.

Shown to reduce queues and improve connectivity at leading airports around the world ACUS eases airline operations when launching new routes. The cloud technology also frees Adelaide Airport from the constraints of fixed network connections – making it possible for passenger services to be provided from new locations around the departure hall or by roaming agents.

Dermot O’Neill, Executive General Manager, People, Culture and Customer, Adelaide Airport said: “This is more than just a technology upgrade. Moving to Amadeus’ solutions for seamless travel help us maximise the productive use of terminal space, onboard new airline partners more easily and deliver a more connected experience for passengers.”

Jonathan Tong, Senior Vice President, Airports & Border Authorities, Asia Pacific, Amadeus said: “Adelaide Airport provides critical domestic and growing international connectivity to South Australia. This transformation will deliver a flexible foundation for passenger services based on the very latest self-service innovations. We’re excited about transforming the airport experience in Adelaide and continuing to make travel work better across the end-to-end journey for travelers.”

In addition to the seamless travel upgrade, the airport will also adopt a new system for message exchange between airlines and its baggage infrastructure, ensuring synchronization. Amadeus Smart Message will replace Teletype, a costly traditional messaging standard originally introduced the 1960’s that’s still prevalent in aviation.
