ACI APAC & MID encourages greater airport readiness to scale Sustainable Aviation Fuel

Scaling Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) to multi-location operations requires more than production, it demands robust supply chain and infrastructure readiness across airports in Asia-Pacific and Middle East.

At the recent SAF APAC Summit 2026 in Melbourne, Australia, Airports Council International Asia-Pacific & Middle East (ACI APAC & MID) joined industry stakeholders to address the role of the airports in enabling credible carbon accounting, accelerating Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) infrastructure readiness, and stakeholder alignment.

Speaking at the panel: "Sharing a Cleaner Sky: Building a Regional SAF Network," Ken Lau, Head, Sustainability, ACI APAC & MID, shared insights on regional SAF corridors. As APAC nations are progressing at varying paces in SAF deployment, a regional network creates vital synergy, to leverage each other’s strengths in implementing SAF. Though traditionally the concept of regional SAF corridor involve large hub airports, but we should not neglect other regional airports that could have location advantage for SAF deployment.
Ken also emphasised the importance of harmonising policy across diverse jurisdictions, which could be supported byestablishing national and regional SAF coalitions and stakeholder task forces that helps align industry positions and streamline engagement with governments.

The discussion also centres on the best practices of major hub airports in developing SAF, while the geographical advantage of smaller regional airports in deploying SAF should not be overlooked, the distinct location advantages includes the proximity to feedstock sources or direct port infrastructure, making the airports ideal nodes for regional SAF distribution.
