Travel between WA and China becomes easier as China Southern Airlines resume Perth-Guangzhou direct seasonal flights. China Southern Airlines recommenced their direct seasonal service between Perth and Guangzhou. The seasonal service will operate until March 2026.
The service is initially operating three times per week on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays before increasing to four times a week during the peak holiday season starting on 14 December. The airline is operating the B787-9 Dreamliner aircraft on this route providing a total of 34,650 additional seats during the season. Perth Airport’s Chief Commercial and Aviation Officer Kate Holsgrove said the returning direct service is great news for WA’s economy.
“We value our partnership with China Southern Airlines as it provides a vital connection for people and trade between China and WA. “By working closely with State Government, we continue to further develop this partnership placing us in a better position to increase flight frequency in the future.”
“China currently represents Western Australia’s fourth largest international market by visitor number with 65,000 visitors in FY2025, injecting $457 million into the economy – so a direct connection to China is an important objective for Western Australia tourism industry. “Chinese visitors deliver the highest tourism spend in Western Australia, with travellers typically staying seven nights and exploring multiple regions across the state, according to Tourism WA.
“We are working with Tourism WA to reconnect Perth to mainland China as direct aviation connections will provide a boost across the tourism, business, export, and education sectors which will provide benefits to the entire economy. “In March, this year we signed an important Sister Airport partnership agreement with Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport. The agreement includes a commitment to improve passenger flow, enhance cargo movements, and facilitate through-check services for passengers.”
