Red Phone Box from the UK Pavilion at the Expo comes to KIX - Expo Legacy Project

  • 2026-03-30

Kansai Airports is delighted to announce that the Red Phone Box that stood in front of the UK Pavilion at the Osaka-Kansai Expo 2025 came to Kansai International Airport (KIX) as part of the expo legacy.

This Red Phone Box originally stood on a street in the UK and was exhibited at the Expo decorated with plants such as ivy, attracting a lot of attention as a photo spot showcasing British charm.

The Osaka-Kansai Expo provided opportunities for a variety of exchanges between the United Kingdom and Japan, deepening bilateral relations as well as the ties between the UK and the Osaka/Kansai region. To carry forward this momentum, this Red Phone Box from UK Pavillion was donated to KIX as a symbol of the bilateral friendship.

We invited Consul-General Michael Blyth from the British Consulate-General in Osaka for today’s ceremony. During the ceremony, Mr. Michael Blyth stated, “This phone box and this airport both share the same role of connecting people across the world. I would be pleased if many visitors who see this phone box are reminded of the World Expo as well as the UK.”

Mr. Yoshiyuki Yamaya, Representative Director and CEO of Kansai Airports commented,
“This telephone box has been a cherished British icon for generations. It resonates strongly with Kansai International Airport, which has long pursued harmony with nature despite being built on an artificial island. We will continue to value both this remarkable telephone box and the principles of the Expo.

We hope that this installation will serve as a new photo spot at KIX and a beautiful reminder of the Expo for a lot of visitors to enjoy.

Kansai Airports Group will continue to promote exchanges between local communities and other countries, cultural interactions, and partnerships through the operation of our airports.
