Newcastle Airport has been honoured with the ‘Best Health and Wellbeing Program’ award at the 2024 Hunter Safety Awards. This prestigious award is a testament to Newcastle Airport's commitment to prioritising employee wellness, emphasising its role in cultivating a supportive and inclusive workplace.

This accolade follows on from Newcastle Airport’s previous win at the 2023 Hunter Safety Awards, where it was honoured with the ‘Best Work Health and Safety Management System’ award.

Newcastle Airport's comprehensive approach to employee health and safety signifies that employee wellbeing extends beyond physical safety, focusing on emotional and psychological wellness. Initiatives such as enhanced mental health support, well-being leave, and flexible work arrangements underscore the airport's dedication to ensuring staff can achieve a harmonious work-life balance and thrive as individuals.

Georgina Chalker, Executive General Manager People, Safety and Environment at Newcastle Airport, spoke to the achievement.

"We are thrilled to receive this award, which reflects our holistic approach to employee wellbeing. We are a strongly values-based organisation and believe that fostering a culture of inclusivity and support not only enriches our employees' lives but also drives our collective effort towards our purpose, of being the airport the region deserves.”

“This recognition from the Hunter Safety Awards validates our efforts and inspires us to continue enhancing our health and wellbeing program." Ms Chalker said.

Understanding the significance of meaningful work, Newcastle Airport is dedicated to ensuring a positive and enriching experience for all of its employees. By valuing each individual's contributions and fostering a culture of recognition and growth, the airport ensures a fulfilling workplace, contributing to overall well-being.

The accolade from the Hunter Safety Awards serves as recognition of Newcastle Airport's commitment to setting a high standard for workplace health and wellbeing. As the airport continues to evolve, it remains focused on upholding these values, ensuring a supportive and engaging environment for all its team members.
