  • 2025-09-25

Despite the impact of Typhoon Ragasa on 24th September 2025, Macau International Airport (MIA) remained open. As the super typhoon gradually moves away from Macau, the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) of MIA has coordinated with all relevant units to complete preparatory work for flight recovery. Airport team have conducted thorough inspections of facilities, runways, and systems to ensure normal operation for the resumption of flights. Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) lowered the typhoon signal to No. 3 at 11:00 pm, and the airport is progressively restoring flight movements in an orderly manner as planned.

MIA Maintained Limited Operations During Typhoon

Although Typhoon Ragasa was powerful, MIA remained operational, with its runways functioning normally. The Emergency Operations Center was activated two hours prior to the hoisting of Typhoon Signal No. 8 and maintained close communication with all airpirt entities. To ensure passenger safety and service quality, MIA arranged for over 700 employees to remain on site to maintain operation and assist passengers.

During the typhoon, there are several passengers at the passenger terminal. Temporary rest areas equipped with mobile charging stations, drinking water, and food were available for passengers in need within the passenger terminal. Some restaurants and convenience stores also remained open.

Contingency Mechanism Ensures Orderly

During the typhoon, the EOC of airport worked closely with various units, including airlines and ground handlers, to coordinate plans for flight scheduling and post-typhoon operations resumption.

As Ragasa weakened and moved away, engineering personnel has conducted comprehensive checks of airport facilities including runways, taxiways, aprons, the passenger terminal building, and airside facilities, to ensure all systems are fully operational before flights resume.

Flight Recovery Schedule

Coordination with airlines indicates that flight schedules are expected to normalize on 25th September 2025, with the first arrival flight anticipated around 2:00 am. However, flights cancelled or rescheduled on 23rd and 24th September due to the typhoon are expected to be fully processed in these 2 days.

Passenger Advisory

Macau International Airport strongly advises passengers to take the following measures to ensure smooth travel. Confirming flight status before heading to the airport, directly with your carrier or via the MIA website. As the airport is expected to be busier than usual, passengers are advised to arrive the airport earlier to allow sufficient time for check-in procedures.

Macau International Airport reminds that it takes time for air traffic to be normalized following the storm and appreciates passengers’ cooperation for a smoother recovery. All latest flight information will be updated in real-time through the official channels of MIA.
