The impact of global climate change and the greenhouse effect is increasing and affecting the environment and human beings. As the trend is gaining significant momentum worldwide, Macau International Airport (MIA) should closely follow the Central Government, the Macau S.A.R.

Government and international civil aviation organizations at an accelerated pace, to develop sustainable strategies for tackling climate crisis, as well as to achieve carbon peak by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060. Macau International Airport Company Limited (CAM) has established the “Airport Environmental Management Programme (AEMP) ”, and invited the contract operators, sub-concessionaires and service providers to participate in the Programme, with the hope to propel a green operation strategy for all airport stakeholders. The goal of reducing carbon emission will only be supported with concrete actions through engaging our stakeholders to participate in the Programme.

In order to carry out the planning and actions of the green operation and carbon-neutral development path of the airport, the Airport Environmental Office (AEO), Secretariat to the Airport Environmental Executive Committee, held a total of three sessions of Airport Environmental Management Programme (AEMP) workshops in February and March. All airport entities actively participated by appointing their representatives to attend the Workshops respectively. The major purpose of the Workshops is to enhance the knowledge and ability of airport entities in terms of environmental management measures, so the participants can implement the environmental or greenhouse gas emission reduction projects in their organizations, and establish an environmental management system in consistent with AEMP. In the Workshops, the AEO shared with the participants the current environmental management measures of MIA and the contribution of the AEMP to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The contents of the Workshops included the provision of relevant knowledge related to environmental management, including the identification of carbon emission sources, carbon emissions calculation methods, etc.

Meanwhile, the requirements of the AEMP were also explained in the Workshops regarding the guidance of their coordination provided to the entities. Most of the feedbacks received from the participants of the content of Workshops were very fruitful and provided an in depth environmental knowledge which could facilitate the implementation of environmental management system at their workplace.
