Ground Breaking Ceremony of the New Cargo Terminal Complex

The colourful ceremony was attended by the chief guest Hon. Economic Minister Mr. Mohamed Saeed, General Manager of Beijing Urban Construction Group (BUCG) International Mr. Li Daosong along with BUCG staff, Maldives Airports Company Ltd (MACL) Managing Director Mr. Adil Moosa and board members along with MACL staff.

 

The ceremony was also attended by a great number of stake holders. A special foundation stone laid by the chief guest Hon. Economic Minister Mr. Mohamed Saeed with MACL MD Mr. Adil Moosa and Mr. Wang Xianji, the Secretary of the Commission for Discipline Inspection of BUCG. 


At the ceremony Economic Minister highlighted on the benefits of the new Cargo Terminal Complex stating that the new facility will have greater capacity for air to air cargo and air to sea cargo transshipment in the Maldives. 


The Cargo Terminal with modern facility will pave way for the growing Export Industry of the Country. The 12,000 sqm Cargo Terminal Complex will come with an Export and Import Terminal along with a host of office spaces. Located at the western side of VIA the new Cargo Terminal Complex will come with cranes for loading and unloading cargo which will be equipped with modern facilities. It is estimated that 120,000 tonnes per year will be processed which is more than 50% of the present Cargo Terminal.
