Changi Airport Welcomes LOT Polish Airlines’ Inaugural Warsaw-Singapore Service

  • 16 May 2018

Changi Airport Group today welcomed LOT Polish Airlines’ (LOT) inaugural flight from Warsaw, Poland. LOT operates the service on a Boeing B787-8 aircraft, with a capacity of 252 seats in a three-class configuration.

Changi Airport Group’s (CAG) Chief Executive Officer Mr Lee Seow Hiang said, “We are delighted to welcome LOT’s new service which now connects us to Poland. This marks Singapore’s first non-stop link to Central and Eastern Europe, and will provide passengers with greater convenience and travel options. It also presents growth opportunities for leisure and business travel in both regions. Changi Airport Group has been actively strengthening Singapore’s connectivity to Europe, with four new city links (Athens, Dusseldorf, Stockholm, Warsaw) added to Changi’s network over the past 18 months.”

In 2017, traffic between Singapore and the Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) region totalled over 258,000 passenger movements. From its base in Warsaw, LOT provides connectivity to more than 40 cities in the CEE region, expanding the range of one-stop destinations that will be available to passengers from Singapore.

CEO of LOT Polish Airlines, Mr Rafal Milczarski, said “Our flights connect the two hubs directly: the one in Warsaw which is the major transportation hub for passengers travelling from Central Europe, and that in Singapore being a major transit airport in South East Asia. In that way we have released tourist and business potential on that route. The flight from Singapore to Warsaw during which LOT’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner travels the distance of 9,500 km, lasts approximately 12 hours. I hope that both business and economy passengers will be interested in travelling with us on that route and will appreciate the comfort and top-quality of each compartment on board of our Dreamliners. Every year, about three million passengers travel between Europe and Singapore as a gateway to other destinations in Asia, Australia and Oceania.”

For the first quarter of 2018, over 1.1 million passengers travelled between Singapore and Europe[1], a strong year-on-year increase of 11.5%. With this new city link to Warsaw, 12 airlines offer direct connections from Singapore to 18 cities in 14 European countries.
