Kansai Airports: 2026 summer schedule average weekly international flights to reach 1,399.8; Sharp decline in China-bound flights, while other routes show strong growth

  • 2026-03-24

Kansai Airports expects that international scheduled flights in the 2026 summer schedule (S26) will average 1,399.8 flights per week, comprising 1,202.8 passenger flights and 197.0 cargo flights.
International passenger flights overall are projected to decline by 17% compared with the 2025 summer schedule (S25), mainly due to a sharp drop in services to mainland China (–70% vs S25) resulting from supply constraints.

Meanwhile, other regions are expected to show solid growth (+14% vs S25), supported by newly launched late‑night services and expanded networks in Korea-bound flights, and increases in Southeast Asia-bound flights that have continued to fly since the 2025 winter schedule (W25). On top of it, in S26, AirAsia Malaysia will launch a new Kuala Lumpur service.

International cargo operations will remain steady, driven by rising e‑commerce demand. In addition, Spring Japan will launch its Kansai–New Chitose service on March 24, marking the first scheduled domestic cargo flight at Kansai International Airport in six years.

For domestic services, the total number of passenger flights across the three airports is expected to average 277.4 per day, slightly below last year.
