Mr. Ma Iao Hang, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Macau International Airport Company Limited (CAM), presided over a typhoon preparedness briefing on 22nd September 2025 at 4pm, with full attendance of all the five Executive Committee members to receive reports from the Airport Operations Department and the Infrastructure Development Department regarding disaster prevention arrangements. The briefing aimed to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the coordination mechanisms and safety measures to be implemented during the typhoon, guaranteeing seamless integration across all operational areas.

Chairman Ma emphasized that all airport units must attach great importance to the situation and fully recognize its severity. He stressed on a comprehensive and responsible approach is imperative for implementing all defensive measures at the airfield and terminal building, with utmost priority placed on the safety of passengers and staff. Chairman Ma also highlighted that typhoon response is a collective effort, requiring strengthened coordination and an unwavering focus on human safety as the top principle.

CAM has also convened a special meeting of the Airport Operations Management Committee (AOMC) at 3pm on the same day. Representatives from key stakeholders, including Menzies Macau Airport Services Limited, Nam Kwong Petroleum & Chemicals Company Limited, MCS - Macau Catering Services Company Limited, various departments stationed at the airport under the Security Affairs, all airlines, and Fixed Base Operators (FBO) joined the meeting to have unified response to the approaching Typhoon Ragasa. Macau International Airport expects approximately 250 flights to be affected by the Typhoon. After 4pm on 23rd September 2025, flight operations will be significantly reduced, with virtually no flights taking off or landing on the 24th September.

Flight services are expected to gradually resume on the morning of the 25th September. Representative of AOD reported that comprehensive emergency preparations are underway. The Emergency Operations Center will be activated two hours before Typhoon Signal No. 8 is hoisted and will remain operational until the signal is lowered. During this period, it will coordinate the deployment of personnel from airlines, ground handlers, and airport units, and maintain close communication with the Civil Protection Operations Center. Staffing schedules for frontline employees during and after the typhoon have been arranged to ensure sufficient manpower for maintaining normal airport operations. Additionally, the airport has held meetings with major maintenance service providers to discuss arrangements during the typhoon on 19th September 2025. Checks on navigation facilities, communication systems, and backup power supplies have been completed, while measures have been taken to enhance flood prevention capabilities and ensure the safety of the airfield. Flight arrangements from 22nd to 25th September 2025 are being closely coordinated with relevant airlines to reschedule affected flights and ensure smooth operations after the typhoon. Furthermore, FBO have been coordinated to park business aircraft in hangars, and to remove or secure engineering equipment and eliminate potential hazards. The airport has also prepared rest areas for passengers and on-duty staff, providing drinking water, food, and free charging zones. Some restaurants and convenience stores will remain open, and additional staff will be deployed to assist passengers.

Representative of Infrastructure Development Department reported that inspections of the construction site of Airport Expansion and Reclamation Project and power station replacement site have been conducted, requiring project units to activate typhoon response plans. Temporary structure reinforcement, removal of non-essential equipment, drainage checks, and emergency supply storage have been conducted. Project units will continue to closely monitor the development of typhoon and make dynamic adjustments to protective measures as needed.

Mr. Chan Weng Hong, Chairman of the Executive Committee of CAM, stated that after the impact of Typhoon Ragasa on Macau gradually weakened, the top priority is to ensure the swift and orderly resumption of normal operations at the airport. The airport team will conduct comprehensive inspections of all terminal facilities, ground services, and airport infrastructure after the No. 8 typhoon signal is lifted, ensuring they are restored to optimal operational standards. Whether in terms of hardware equipment or service procedures, passenger safety and comfort remain the foremost considerations. Simultaneously, through the situational awareness provided by the Integrated Airport Management Centre (IAMC), airport management resources will be consolidated to maintain close coordination and communication with airlines during the Typhoon. Efforts will be made to actively assist airlines in flexibly adjusting flight schedules, and rationally allocating resources to minimize the time required for a return to normal operations. Ensuring that information regarding flight departure and arrival times, delays, and recovery plans is communicated promptly and accurately to passengers and relevant parties is crucial.

This enables swift and effective communication, providing passengers with clear guidance. The focus remains on ensuring safe operations and unified, coordinated management, striving for the fastest possible, safe, and orderly restoration of full airport operations.

Macau International Airport remains committed to maintaining high standards in responding to extreme weather events, ensuring passenger safety and operational continuity. Passengers are advised to closely monitor flight status updates through official airline channels before traveling. The airport also reminds passengers to prioritize personal safety during severe weather conditions. Continuous coordination with all operational units will be maintained to monitor the progression of typhoon in real-time, and response strategies will be promptly adjusted based on actual conditions to ensure swift response capabilities in emergencies, delivering safe and efficient services to all passengers.
