Airport operates overnight to handle post-typhoon traffic
- 2025-09-08
Hong Kong International Airport expects to handle around 800 flights today as implementation of the Flight Rescheduling Control System continues in response to the impact caused by Tropical Cyclone Tapah. As of 1700hrs about 140 flights were cancelled and 370 flights delayed, a result of strong winds and crosswinds that affected flight operations throughout this morning. Among the flights that were diverted this morning, four have already arrived in Hong Kong, while 10 are being arranged to return later.
Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) expects that the airport will still need to handle about 400 flights this evening through early tomorrow morning, with around 50 flights arriving in the early hours. The airport is expected to remain busy tonight. The Airport Express will operate its last train at 0048hrs as per the usual schedule, while overnight airport bus services will run as normal. The Taxi Queue Ticket System will continue to operate, allowing passengers to obtain a queue number via ticket kiosks or the mobile app and wait for taxis without having to wait in line at the taxi station. Additional staff will be deployed to assist passengers.
AAHK advises passengers to check with their airlines for the latest flight information and proceed to the airport only when their seats and flight times are confirmed. Passengers may also visit HKIA’s website or use the “My HKG” mobile app for checking the latest flight information.
