AAHK: Airport Authority welcomes support from the Budget on Aviation Industry
- 2026-02-26
Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) welcomes the Financial Secretary’s statement while delivering the Budget that the Government will continue to strive to enter into new air services agreements and expand traffic rights. AAHK is working closely with the Government, proactively expanding its aviation network, so as to consolidate Hong Kong’s position as an international aviation hub.
The Budget also mentions that the departure facilities of Terminal 2 will be operational in May, substantially boosting the airport’s overall capacity. Meanwhile, AAHK is committed to providing seamless passenger connections between Hong Kong and other Greater Bay Area (GBA) cities through projects such as “Fly-Via-Zhuhai-HK”, aiming to attract more passengers from the Chinese Mainland to travel to destinations worldwide via Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA).
To reinforce HKIA’s leadership as the world’s busiest cargo airport, AAHK will remain dedicated to strengthening the airport’s role as a leading international gateway of the GBA. Works include expanding the HKIA Dongguan Logistics Park, with the goal of completing the first phase development of its permanent facilities this year.
AAHK is pressing ahead with the Airport City project SKYTOPIA. Works include Phase 2 development of AsiaWorld-Expo launched last year, as well as the Airport Bay Marina and art storage facility. This year, AAHK’s autonomous driving technology, which has been in use in the restricted area for years, will be extended to the non-restricted area. As Hong Kong’s first public autonomous transportation system, AAHK’s autonomous buses will carry passengers between the Hong Kong Port of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and the airport island, via the Airportcity Link.
To support Hong Kong’s development as Asia’s first aircraft parts processing and trading centre, AAHK and the Hong Kong International Aviation Academy (HKIAA) will further collaborate with various institutions to nurture talent. Programmes include cooperating with a leading overseas aviation services company to offer a series of professional training courses in aircraft maintenance, aircraft parts processing and certification. Meanwhile, in partnership with the Chinese University of Hong Kong, HKIAA will also launch a new Master of Science in Aviation Management programme this year.
