Yangon International Airport Welcomes Six Millionth Passenger of 2019

Yangon International Airport (“YIA”), Myanmar’s busiest airport, welcomed its six millionth passenger today, as the aviation gateway looks set to record a new high for 2019 for passenger traffic.  

 

Mr. Ameeramsa Musthafa and family from India, arrived today at 1459 time from Kolkata on board IndiGo Airlines flight 6E 1398. The lucky family received a warm welcome from representatives of Yangon Aerodrome Company Limited (“YACL”), operator of YIA, and IndiGo Airlines, which commenced flights to the country in September 2019.  

 

At the celebratory event in YIA Terminal 1, Mr. Ameeramsa and family, the six millionth passenger of 2019 received K1 million in cash prize from YACL. Along with the cash prize, the winner also received other valuable travel-related items and gift vouchers presented from YACL’s partners: 2 nights stay gift voucher from Horizon Lake View Resort, free VIP Service Voucher from Mingalar Sky Company Limited, from YACL (Samsonite Carryon, Artisan Traditional Bag, Fossil Passport holder, Myanmar Book, Myanmar Postcards (3x), JBL Speakers, Neck Pillow, Myanmar Coffee and Myanmar Tea), from Royal Golden Sky Company Limited (Versus Bag, Fossil Watch, 2 x Lego toys for the lucky winner), and various supporting gifts from Espace Café & Bar, Craft Café and Gloria Jean’s Cafe, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, and Monster Cheese.

With 2019 end just around the corner, we are also joyful to announce that in a couple days YIA will break another absolute record in the number of passengers processed, registering a percentual growth higher than the forecasted for the Asia-Pacific Region in 2019,” said Mr. Jose Angeja, Chief Operating Officer of Yangon Aerodrome Company Limited.

 

“This is the corollary of a very demanding year of continuous work, not only in seeking and negotiating with new airliners and destinations but, in improving the airside and landside facilities, in anticipating the conditions to cope with the demand, in providing new and better services for all the airport users and, very specially, granting a safe, secure and more efficient operation at the airport, as YIA is the most important air transport hub of Myanmar,” he added.

 

“A special word of recognition and shared credit to the YACL's team, as well as to the Governmental entities, tourism stakeholders and airline partners, that have effectively embraced and been committed in ramping up tourism marketing in Myanmar,” he continued.  

 

YIA currently serves 37 international airlines connecting to 37 destinations in 14 countries. The airport’s passenger traffic grew by 8% compared to the same January – November period last year, driven by new international routes.
