Tokyo International Airport (HANEDA) achieves Airport Carbon Accreditation Level 4

  • 2026-03-26

Tokyo International Airport (hereinafter referred to as Haneda Airport) is pleased to announce that it has achieved Level 4 Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA), the only institutionally-endorsed, global carbon management certification programme for airports owned and governed by Airports Council International (ACI).

The Tokyo International Airport Decarbonisation Promotion Council (Chaired by the East Japan Civil Aviation Bureau, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism) announced the 'Tokyo International Airport Decarbonisation Promotion Plan' in March 2024. This plan sets ambitious targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions for FY2030 by at least 46% compared to FY2013 levels and achieve carbon neutrality by FY2050. These goals are supported by initiatives including improvements to airport facilities and vehicles, as well as expanded use of renewable energy across the airport. The establishment of long-term reduction targets and the steady implementation of related initiatives were key factors leading to this certification.

The certification was achieved through close collaboration between public and private stakeholders across the airport community. Our company participates in the council as the passenger terminal operator at Haneda Airport and as an ACI member organization, and has played a central role in implementing the initiatives required for accreditation.

As a company engaged in construction, management, and operation of passenger terminals at Haneda Airport, Japan Airport Terminal Group recognizes climate change as a key issue and has established targets aligned with the airport's decarbonization plan.

Looking ahead, the Group will continue working closely with airport stakeholders to accelerate decarbonization across Haneda Airport, ensuring that Japan's primary international gateway remains a globally leading sustainable airport while contributing to the realization of a sustainable society.

Comment from ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East
