Ticketless parking launched at Wellington Airport

  • 2025-11-03

A new ticketless era for car parking begins at Wellington Airport from today, making it easier for travellers and removing the need for around three million paper tickets per year.

Instead of taking a ticket at the entry gates, cameras will automatically record licence plate numbers. Travellers can then pay at a pay machine by inputting their licence plate before exiting, or at the exit barrier itself via credit card or payWave.

Wellington Airport’s Commercial General Manager Richard Dalby says it is a win-win for travellers and the airport.

“It’s going to be easier for the public with no need to hang onto a paper ticket, and a lot better for the environment with millions of tickets no longer printed.

“You can also pay in advance when making an online booking. We always recommend this to get the best deals.”

Drivers should approach the barrier slowly upon entry and exit and stop in line with the parking column.

Staff will be available to help drivers via the intercom at parking barriers.
