The 4th phase of “KIX CULTURE GATE Project” Cultural outreach from the airport: New travel experiences inspired by Kansai’s public art
- 2026-04-22
Kansai Airports is pleased to announce that artworks will be displayed in the Terminal 2 Domestic Arrival area from 22 April 2026, as the fourth phase of the “KIX CULTURE GATE Project,” an initiative based at Kansai International Airport (KIX) that highlights the rich and diverse cultures of Kansai and Japan.
Through this project, we aim to further evolve KIX, where passengers from around the world come and go, into a place of connection with art and culture. In this fourth phase, we will display photographic works featuring public art installed across the Kansai region. By encountering these photographs at the airport — a starting point and a transit hub — travelers may be inspired to seek out and visit the actual artworks introduced in the photos, along the way to their destination or before and after their journey, offering a new way to enjoy art through travel.
The eight artists in this project form a diverse group across generations and genres, from prominent Kansai artists to those shaping contemporary public spaces. We will invite travelers to discover new facets of Kansai, sparked by an encounter with art at the airport.
Kansai Airports Group will continue to enhance the attractiveness of the airport as a hub for cultural exchange and create exciting passenger experiences.

Display period: Until 30 April 2028
Location: KIX Terminal 2 Domestic Arrival area
Participating artists: Eight artists

KIX Culture Gate Project is an initiative based at Kansai International Airport (KIX), a global gateway welcoming travelers from around the world, with the aim of showcasing the diverse and rich cultures of Kansai and Japan to the world. By evolving the airport into a place of encounter with a wide range of cultural experiences, the project seeks to create a space that can be enjoyed not only by air travelers but also by people of the local community in their everyday lives.
Artworks
We mainly display artworks by artists with strong ties to the Kansai region throughout our terminal. Encountering art at the airport, which is a starting point and a transit hub, adds a fresh dimension to every journey and offers passengers a more enriching airport experience.
Terminal Decorations

We decorate our terminal, including the corridors and entrances, to warmly welcome visitors and see them off. These decorations change with the seasons and are designed to reflect the culture and landscapes of Kansai and Japan.
KIX LIVE MUSIC

Through live performances featuring a wide range of genres and performers—from pop to classical music—the program aims to make the time before and after a flight a little more special and memorable. As a special experience unique to the airport, music encountered at that moment and place adds a gentle, lasting touch to travelers’ memories.
