- 2025-07-29
GMR Aero led consortium-GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd. (GHIAL) today announced that Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) has been awarded the ACI Accessibility Accreditation – Level 1 by Airports Council International (ACI) World. This prestigious recognition marks a significant milestone in RGIA’s journey toward creating a more inclusive, accessible, and dignified travel experience for all passengers, including those with disabilities and reduced mobility.
The ACI Accessibility Enhancement Accreditation Program is a global initiative designed to help airports assess and improve their accessibility standards. Level 1 serves as the foundational tier, guiding airports to identify existing barriers, evaluate current infrastructure and services, and begin implementing internationally recognized best practices. RGIA was assessed on key parameters including physical infrastructure (such as ramps, signage, and accessible restrooms), passenger services (including assistance programs and communication aids), staff training, and the airport’s organizational culture and leadership commitment to inclusivity.
Speaking on the achievement, Mr Pradeep Panicker, CEO, GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd said, ““We are honored to receive the ACI Accessibility Accreditation – Level 1, a meaningful recognition of our unwavering commitment to building an inclusive airport experience. Our goal is to ensure that every traveler—regardless of physical or cognitive ability—feels welcomed, supported, and empowered. Through accessible infrastructure, customized facilities, improved capacity-building programs for staff to assist persons with special needs, we are dedicated to making every journey through our airport seamless and dignified for all.”
This accreditation not only reflects RGIA’s dedication to accessibility but also sets the stage for future enhancements as the airport continues to align with global standards. GHIAL remains committed to progressing through higher levels of accreditation, ensuring that inclusivity remains at the heart of its operations.
