More choice to Sydney with Jetstar launching new route today
- 2026-10-26
Travellers flying between Christchurch and Sydney will have more flights, more seats and more choice from today, with Jetstar returning to the popular trans-Tasman route on Monday 26 October.
Jetstar’s return means four airlines will now fly direct between Christchurch and Sydney, with Jetstar joining Air New Zealand, Emirates and Qantas on one of Christchurch Airport’s busiest international routes.
The airline will operate four flights a week, adding nearly 40,000 seats to the route over the season and providing a significant boost to capacity during the busy summer months.
At the peak of summer, travellers will have access to up to 41 return Sydney services a week, with as many as seven direct flights in a single day.
The additional capacity is welcome news for Kiwis heading to Australia and for the growing number of Australians choosing Christchurch as their destination or gateway to the South Island.
Christchurch Airport Chief Executive Justin Watson says the addition is great news for South Islanders and Australians looking to explore the region.
“Having four airlines now flying between Christchurch and Sydney is fantastic news for travellers. It shows just how strong the demand is between our two cities and gives people more choice when it comes to fares, flight times and airlines.
“Sydney is one of our busiest international routes, so it's fantastic to see Jetstar back in the mix. More flights and more competition are good news for Cantabrians heading across the Tasman and for Australians looking to explore Christchurch and the South Island.”
Jetstar Executive Manager Commercial Planning Scott Zeglin says.
"We're delighted to welcome direct Sydney–Christchurch flights back to Jetstar's network, giving Sydneysiders another way to explore New Zealand's South Island with the convenience of a direct flight and low fares."
"Whether it's a long weekend, a summer escape or an unforgettable road trip, Christchurch is the perfect starting point for exploring one of New Zealand's most spectacular regions."
Jetstar’s Sydney services will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 26 October. Bookings are available at jetstar.com.
