MIA Traffic Volume Has Gradually Recovered in 2023

In 2023, traffic volume of Macau International Airport (MIA) has gradually stabilized and recovered. In addition to maintain close contact with airlines to explore international markets, actively cope with various airlines to develop international passenger source markets. In response to the market demand, the network of major cities of the Mainland of China and international routes has been rapidly recovered. Throughout the year, there has been a significant increase in air passengers of MIA, with a total annual airport passenger volume of 5.15 million passengers and 42,504 aircraft movements. MIA handled an average of approximately 14,000 passengers and 116 aircraft movements per day. Compared to the same period in 2019, overall passenger volume and aircraft movements have recovered by approximately 55% and 54% respectively.

 

MIA currently accommodates 25 airlines, offering total 48 routes covering various destinations in the Mainland of China, China Taiwan, Southeast Asia and Northeast Asia. The passengers in the Mainland of China market accounted for 58%, China Taiwan market accounted for 15% of the total of passenger volume and Southeast Asia routes accounted for the rest of 27%.

 

In 2024, Macau International Airport will continue to cooperate with the tourism development direction of Macau SAR Government and consolidate the passenger market of the Mainland of China. Meanwhile, MIA will constantly collaborate with overseas and base airlines to explore international markets, so as to develop more direct or connecting long-haul routes for providing comprehensive one-stop travel solutions.

 

In order to increase routes from Southeast Asia and Northeast Asia, MIA enhanced the communication with overseas airlines for promoting tourism market, aiming to attract more international tourists to visit Macau. In addition, MIA will further strengthen tourism promotion in the Greater Bay Area to attract tourists to travel via MIA and thus expand passenger source range. At the same time, optimization of related travel convenience measures and services will be gradually launched to provide local residents and travelers with more convenient travel options aiming to promote the diversification and sustainable development of the tourism industry.
