MIA reports steady growth in passenger traffic

  • 2026-01-02

Macau International Airport’s (MIA) passenger traffic recorded over 7.52 million passengers in 2025, while the flight movements exceeded 58,000. There has been a 26% growth in the number of international routes and a 7% increase in international passenger traffic compared to last year. During the Macau SAR Establishment Day and Christmas period (20th to 25th December 2025), MIA recorded active operational performance, handling a total of over 140,000 passengers.

On average, MIA managed 179 flight movements and more than 24,000 passengers per day, representing an increase of 5.6% and 1.7% respectively over the same period of last year. Especially, on the date of 23rd December 2025, MIA handled over 26 thousands passengers recorded the highest single day traffic in holiday period. Currently, there are 29 airlines operating at MIA connecting Macau to 47 destinations covering area in the Mainland of China, China Taiwan, Southeast Asia and Northeast Asia. MIA continues to provide travellers with a variety of travel options.

In 2025, due to the surrounding economic environment and some uncertain factors, passenger traffic fell short of expectations during the first half of the year and the summer holiday period, resulting in an overall decrease of 1.6% in annual passenger traffic compared to the previous year. However, cargo volume achieved a year-on-year growth of 1.08%. In response to these challenges, MIA proactively responded by collaborating with various stakeholders to attract new airlines. This effort led to the launch of multiple new destinations and an increase in flight frequencies, with passenger traffic showing a steady increase in Q4. These included newly added and resumed routes to Jinan, Cebu, Haiphong, Ho Chi Minh City and Vladivostok. The inauguration of these new routes has further enhanced the convenience of travel to and from Macau. MIA is actively engaging with multiple domestic and international airlines to discuss the launch of further routes, including potential cooperation with Middle Eastern Airlines on routes to the Middle East. Currently, passengers have multiple options to reach destinations in the Middle East, Europe and America from Macau, with layover times of approximately 2 to 3 hours via hubs in Chengdu, Chongqing, or Taiwan. MIA is progressively building a more comprehensive long-haul network.

In terms of passenger services, MIA plans to introduce the “Check’ N Fly” hotel check-in and baggage drop-off service before the Lunar New Year in 2026. This initiative aims to provide a seamless travel experience by enabling passengers to drop off luggage upon leaving the hotel and proceed directly to boarding upon arrival at the airport, offering more convenient and attentive travel services.
