Macau International Airport Passengers Increased 1.7 Times in the First Quarter of 2023

Macau International Airport (MIA) recorded more than 750,000 passengers traffic in the first quarter of 2023, representing year-on-year growth of 1.7 times. The flight movements recorded year-on-year increase of 57% with over 6,900 movements in the first quarter of 2023. The daily average passengers traffic is about 10,000 and flight movements is about 100.

 

With the full resumption of traveller clearance in Macau, it is able to drive the growth of passengers directly. And the airlines are gradually resuming the flight operations and increasing the number of flights. The number of tourists from the Mainland of China, China Taiwan, Southeast Asia and other markets all increased compared with the same period in last year, and the number of international tourists from Southeast Asia recorded a more significant growth.

 

Looking ahead to the second quarter, Macau International Airport will strive to develop new destinations, and it is expected that the growth of passengers will maintain an overall upward trend. In the future, MIA will further cooperate with airlines and organize delegations from the tourism industry to visit various airports. MIA will actively explore potential medium and long-term charter routes, and focus on coordinating with the Macau SAR Government’s policy to strengthen the development of international routes. In April, the destinations will be resuming in operation include Osaka – Japan, Cebu – Philippines and Clark – Philippines, with a total of 14 international routes at the start of the summer schedule.

 

The weekly flight of Southeast Asia and Northeast Asia has increased by more than 2.5 times in April compared to March. With the increase in the number of routes and flights, it will provide more diversified sources of tourists and route services for the local tourism industry, and actively promote the economic recovery and development of tourism in Macau.
