KIX Terminal 1 Renovation Will Be Delivered on Time for the Expo, with Adjusted Schedule

  • 26 Oct 2020

Kansai Airports is moving forward with the renovation of Terminal 1 of Kansai International Airport (KIX) that was unveiled last year. The international gateway of Kansai region will be ready to welcome the visitors of Osaka-Kansai Expo 2025 with additional capacity, better services, and an incredible passenger experience.

However, due to the prolonged public health crisis, the project schedule is being adjusted to give more time for coordination with our partners and stakeholders. Hence, the renovation work which was originally announced to begin in December 2020 will start in June 2021. As part of this schedule adjustment, a minor portion of the commercial area in the international departures will be developed after the Osaka-Kansai Expo 2025. Nevertheless, the main targets of T1 renovation which are to improve the passenger experience, enhance airport functions and increase the airport capacity will be achieved for the Expo.

Kansai Airports will continue to work together with its stakeholders to bring comfort and shape a new journey experience to all our passengers. Let Terminal 1 be the “First Pavilion” of Osaka-Kansai Expo 2025.
