HKIA strengthens collaborations with belt and road countries with agreements signed with Turkish cargo carrier and Uzbekistan Airport

Hong Kong International Airport’s (HKIA) further strengthened its cooperation with Belt and Road countries through two documents exchanged and signed at the Belt and Road Summit today: a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) exchanged with a Turkish cargo airline to enhance air cargo connectivity and aviation cooperation, and an agreement to support the development project of Navoi International Airport in Uzbekistan.

Vivian Cheung, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK), said, “As of March 2026, HKIA is connected to 78 destination airports in 41 countries in Belt and Road regions. We are pleased to further deepen HKIA’s aviation ties with Belt and Road countries, reinforcing our role as an international aviation hub.” 

Mrs Cheung exchanged the signed MoU with Ali Sedat ÖZKAZANÇ, CEO of MNG Airlines, under the witness by Nicolas Ho, Commissioner for Belt and Road. Both parties agreed to deepen cooperation in areas including enhancing air connectivity with HKIA, advancing operational excellence and service quality, exchanging management experience and knowledge, supporting sustainable development and nurturing talent development through courses offered by the Hong Kong International Aviation Academy.

Based at Istanbul Airport, MNG Airlines is Turkey’s first privately owned cargo carrier, operating freighter services to more than 60 destinations across Europe, Asia and North America.  It currently operates freighter flights from 8 to 10 flights per week between Turkey and Hong Kong, and aims to increase flight frequencies to cater for the robust growth in demand.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong International Airport Consultancy Limited (HKIA Consultancy) and Harvest Epoch Strategic (International) Investment Limited (Harvest Epoch) signed a cooperation agreement at the summit today in connection with the development of Navoi International Airport in Uzbekistan. The agreement was signed by Simon Li, CEO of HKIA Consultancy, and Yip Koon Shing, Chief Strategic Officer of Harvest Epoch, and witnessed by Nicolas Ho, Commissioner for Belt and Road; Alisher Klichev, Director of Navoi International Airport; Vivian Cheung, CEO of AAHK; and Hermas Tang, Principal Advisor, Aviation Logistics of Harvest Epoch.

The cooperation aims to advance the development of Navoi International Airport in Uzbekistan, a key Belt and Road hub, by leveraging HKIA’s experience and expertise in airport management and operations.
