Hactl Wins Prestigious HKMA Quality Award for Second Time

  • 2022-10-18

Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited (Hactl) – Hong Kong’s largest independent air cargo handler – has received the highly prestigious Grand Award in the 2022 Hong Kong Management Association (HKMA) Quality Award.

The award followed a highly-detailed submission and thorough judging process covering every aspect of Hactl’s business, focusing on the numerous steps it has taken to maintain and enhance quality through its management systems, practices and policies.

Competition for the HKMA Quality Award is very strong, attracting entries from Hong Kong’s largest businesses and multi-nationals in all business sectors. The judging criteria, based on the world-famous Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award given annually in the USA, considered seven aspects of each entrant’s business.

A board of independent examiners, made up of high-ranking business executives and management experts, considered all submissions and drew up a list of finalists. As a finalist, Hactl was then interviewed by the examiners during a site visit to SuperTerminal 1, and subsequently at HKMA headquarters by a panel of judges, who selected the winners. Finally, Hactl was announced as the winner of the Grand Award at a Presentation Ceremony held on 17 October 2022 in Hong Kong.

The “Report from the Board of Examiners” made particular reference to Hactl’s forward-looking leadership; adoption of innovative technology and best practice; staff training; and excellent customer service. It pointed to Hactl’s industry-beating performance, and how it had sustained business operations throughout typhoons and COVID challenges.

The report praised Hactl’s support for local community causes, and employment of people with disabilities and special needs. It also paid tribute to Hactl’s treatment of its staff, leading to long average length of service. The report concluded that Hactl had “made a name for itself” in quality management, describing the company as “an admirable example of quality management”.

Accepting the award in front of a distinguished audience comprising Hong Kong senior business leaders, Hactl’s Chief Executive Wilson Kwong said: “I would like to thank the board of examiners, the panel of judges and all of those working behind the scenes at the HKMA, for bestowing this enormous honour upon us.

“Since 1976, Hactl has kept global air cargo supply chains running, cementing Hong Kong’s position as the number one cargo airport in the world.  Being recognised with the Grand Award is a testament to our contribution to the international and local business communities, especially during the pandemic.”

He concluded: “Hactl is Hong Kong’s air cargo terminal.  With your support, we shall continue to deliver world-class, quality service here in Hong Kong, a place we are so proud to call Home.”

It is the second time Hactl has won the HKMA Quality Award; the company previously achieved the accolade in 2010.
